This is the 2026 Semester Previous Year Question Paper for Delhi Through the Ages — Delhi University DU & College under the UGCF/NEP framework. Free to view on Sulaksh.

Delhi Through the Ages (GE-1) is History's 4-credit GE that traces Delhi from its early landscape to the eighteenth century in four units, not as one long chronology. You start with Ancient Delhi and its adjoining sites — Indraprastha-Hastinapur-Panipat-Tilpat, Ashokan Edicts, the Mehrauli Iron Pillar and Lalkot — then compare two Sultanate cities of your choice among Anangpur Fort, Siri, Tughlaqabad, Firuzabad and others, before moving to Humayun's Garden Tomb and the morphology of Shahjahanabad and finally to 18th-century political and social change in the city. DU offers it as 3 lectures + 1 tutorial each week and spreads the units over 12 + 16 + 16 + 16 hours with encouraged field trips to the sites you write about. Students lose marks by mixing up the Sultanate cities and by writing a generic 'Delhi history' without anchoring each answer to a specific monument, edict or traveller account from the reading list. One timeline, two case studies prepared with a plan sketch, and a Sufi or merchant example is what turns a descriptive answer into a high-scoring one.
