This is the 2025 Semester Previous Year Question Paper for Ecology and Literature — Delhi University DU & College under the UGCF/NEP framework. Free to view on Sulaksh.
Ecology and Literature is a 2-credit VAC (1-0-1) under UGCF 2022, taught in 2025-26 as a literature-through-ecocriticism paper (p.35 credit table). As per the official syllabus at du.ac.in/uploads/new-web/26102022_VAC.pdf, the course has Unit I Negotiating environmental issues creatively (5 weeks) with Wordsworth 'In April beneath the scented thorn', Tagore 'The Waterfall' and Gieve Patel 'On Killing a Tree'; Unit II Ecocritical literary representations (5 weeks) with Mary Oliver 'Sleeping in the Forest', A.K. Ramanujan 'A Flowering Tree' and Mamang Dai 'Small Towns and the River'; and Unit III Empathetic exploration and imaginative re-enactments (5 weeks) with Amitav Ghosh Part I Stories from The Great Derangement and two Thangjam Ibopishak poems from Dancing Earth, plus a 15-week practical (pp.35-36). The practical requires field visits to a school/slum/play area to narrate stories, creative re-enactment as play, and a tree plantation drive with adoption of a sapling (p.36). Examination is 'Subject to directions from the Examination Branch'. Students often lose marks by summarising poems without the ecocritical lens (carbon footprint, habitat loss) and by skipping the practical field work viva expects (as of 12 Sept 2026).
