The PYQ Archive search holds every Delhi University previous year paper on Sulaksh โ 23,000+ papers across Honours, Programme, GE, SEC, VAC and AEC courses. Most students type one word, skim, and give up. Toppers search differently. This guide shows the exact method.
Step 1: Start from your paper code, not the subject
Paper names repeat across courses โ "Financial Accounting" exists in B.Com (Hons), B.Com (Prog) and as a GE paper, each with different units. Before searching, copy the paper code (DSC-3, GE-2, SEC-4โฆ) from your syllabus or admit card. Search the paper name first, then use the code shown on each result to confirm it is yours.
Step 2: Type the exact paper name
The search matches paper titles, so precision beats length:
- Good: data privacy โ every Data Privacy PYQ across years and sets, one list.
- Good: cost accounting โ Cost Accounting papers only, newest first.
- Weak: accounting โ hundreds of hits across Financial, Cost, Corporate and Management Accounting. You will scroll instead of revise.
- Weak: sem 5 bcom question paper โ too many common words; the engine matches words, not meaning.
Rule of thumb: 2โ4 distinctive words โ the paper's actual name as printed on the question paper.
Step 3: Read the result line before opening
Every result shows three things after the title: subject ยท semester ยท year. This is your verification strip. A "Business Laws 2024 Sem 1" result and a "Business Laws 2026 Sem 1" result can test different units if the syllabus was revised โ always open the one matching your semester and the UGCF pattern (2023 onwards).
Step 4: Fewer words when you get zero hits
No matches usually means over-specifying, not a missing paper. Shorten step by step:
- Drop the session first: data privacy nov dec 2024 โ data privacy.
- Drop filler words: introduction to western philosophy โ western philosophy.
- Try the core noun alone: epistemology, jurisprudence, macroeconomics.
- Check spelling variants: organisation vs organization โ DU papers use both across years.
If a single distinctive word still returns nothing, the paper may be listed under its course name (e.g. GE papers under the offering department). Browse the subject collections instead, or ask on the contact page โ missing-paper requests are uploaded within 6โ10 hours.
Step 5: View vs Save โ pick the right one
Each result has two buttons. View opens the paper in the browser reader โ best on the phone, no download, never forced. Save downloads the PDF for offline revision and printing. For exam-week revision, save the 3โ4 papers you will actually solve and view the rest.
Step 6: Combine search with the 3-pass method
Searching finds papers; the 3-pass PYQ method converts them into marks. Pull 3โ4 recent papers for your subject with the search above, then: Pass 1 โ map every question to syllabus Units 1โ4; Pass 2 โ solve one full paper timed (3 hours, no phone); Pass 3 โ compress each unit to a one-page sheet. The search box gets you the raw material in seconds; the method turns it into a prediction tool.
When browsing beats searching
Search is a sniper; sometimes you need a map. Use the subject collections instead when:
- You don't know the paper name yet. New semester, new subjects โ scroll your course hub (e.g. B.Com Programme, Philosophy Honours) to see every paper at a glance, then search the ones you will actually solve.
- You take GE, SEC, VAC or AEC papers. These live in shared pools across departments with unfamiliar names. Browsing the pool shows you what exists; searching works once you know the exact title.
- You want everything for one semester. Open your semester folder on the DU & College page โ syllabus, notes and PYQs sit side by side in taught order, which no search result can replicate.
Rule of thumb: browse to discover, search to retrieve. First week of the semester โ browse. Exam fortnight โ search.
A 7-day PYQ sprint using the archive
Here is the routine this search box was built for. One subject, seven days:
- Day 1 โ pull: search each paper name, save 3 recent PYQs per paper (2023 onwards). Check every result's semester and year line before saving.
- Days 2โ3 โ map: mark every question to syllabus Units 1โ4. Rank units by frequency. This tells you where 60% of marks hide.
- Days 4โ5 โ solve timed: one full paper per day, 3 hours, no phone. Mark yourself strictly โ DU checking rewards structure (headings, one example per answer, concluding line).
- Day 6 โ compress: one page per unit โ 4โ5 bullets, one diagram or table, one PYQ pointer. This sheet is your entire revision.
- Day 7 โ simulate: one more full paper, morning slot if your exam is in the morning. Then stop. Sleep beats cramming on the last night.
Repeat per subject. Students who run this sprint rarely need anything beyond the archive, their syllabus folder and one standard textbook per paper.
Quick checklist
- Paper code copied from syllabus or admit card before searching
- 2โ4 distinctive words in the search box, exact paper name
- Semester + year on the result line matched to my date sheet
- UGCF pattern only (2023 onwards) for pattern study; older papers for practice volume
- View on phone, save the 3โ4 papers I will actually solve
