DU SOL vs Regular: The Same Syllabus

DU SOL syllabus is not different from regular colleges — same UGCF, same papers, same PYQs. Why the confusion and how to verify your batch.

← All Guides

If your syllabus PDF says “DU SOL” at the top, you have not downloaded the wrong file. At Delhi University under UGCF/NEP 2022, SOL and regular colleges follow the identical syllabus — same DSC titles, same units, same reading lists, same exam pattern. The only difference is where you sit for the exam, not what you study.

Why the confusion exists

SOL PDFs are uploaded first because SOL’s admission and exam cycle starts earlier. Regular colleges upload later, often with the same file name minus the “SOL” tag. Students search “DU English Honours syllabus” and get the SOL version on top, assume it’s a different course, and keep hunting for a “regular” PDF that is byte-identical.

How to verify in 2 minutes

  1. Open your college department’s syllabus page (usually under “Academics → Syllabus”).
  2. Compare the first page: look for UPC, DSC code, credits (4) and semester. If those four match the SOL PDF, it is the same file.
  3. Cross-check one Unit’s “Suggested Readings” — e.g., English Sem 1 Indian Classical Literature lists the same Kalidasa and Aristotle excerpts in both.

Sulaksh keeps one note for each to avoid duplication: if you open English → Sem 1 → Syllabus here and it says DU SOL, treat it as regular. The page notes please verify from your college for your batch for that reason.

What about PYQs?

PYQs are also shared. SOL questions are set from the same UGCF question bank; regular college internal papers often reuse the same units. A 2024 SOL PYQ on “Justice—Rawls vs Nozick” has appeared verbatim in a regular college’s 2025 paper because the Unit is common.

Practical tip: Save the SOL PDF, print the Unit division (Units 1-4), and use it as your revision checklist. When the regular PDF appears, you’ll see you already did the right units.

One exception to know

GE and VAC paper codes can differ slightly — e.g., GE “Indian Constitution” might be GE-1 in one college and GE-2 in another, but the content is 95% same. Always confirm the paper code from your college timetable before the exam, not just the title.

Sulaksh will upload both versions where they exist side-by-side and will label them clearly. Until then, use the SOL copy without worry — it’s not a shortcut, it’s the syllabus.
