VAC: Digital Empowerment β€” How to Score Full

VAC Digital Empowerment is 2 credits, 30 hours, and the most scoring VAC if you prepare practically β€” not by cramming definitions.

← All Guides

Digital Empowerment is a 2-credit VAC under UGCF (30 hours). It looks light β€” and it is β€” but students lose marks by writing theory where the paper asks for steps. This guide shows how DU actually sets this paper and how to finish revision in one weekend.

What DU actually asks

The UGCF syllabus has four units: 1) Digital Literacy basics, 2) Internet & Online services, 3) Digital transactions & security, 4) Creating digital content. Expect: 10-mark questions that are step lists (β€œWrite steps to create a Google Form with response validation”), not essays, plus 5-mark shorts on cyber hygiene.

  • Unit 1: What is digital footprint, netiquette, open-source vs proprietary β€” 1 definition + 1 example each.
  • Unit 2: Email, cloud storage, searching β€” know keyboard shortcuts and file-sharing permissions.
  • Unit 3: UPI, net banking, OTP frauds β€” the entire Unit 3 is case-based; one fraud scenario β†’ how to report via cybercrime.gov.in.
  • Unit 4: Make a poster/slide/document β€” font size, alignment, accessibility β€” DU asks you to create, not describe.

Scoring method β€” practical, not theoretical

  1. Make one project per Unit on your phone: a Drive folder with 2 docs, a Form with 5 questions, a UPI transaction screenshot with security ticks, and a 3-slide presentation. That single exercise covers 60% of possible questions.
  2. For theory: One page per Unit β€” left side definition, right side one screenshot or step list. Examiners check if you can do, not define.
  3. Do not ignore cyber laws: IT Act basics, copyright, plagiarism β€” 6-mark question repeats every year.
Marking secret: Answers with numbered steps and one screenshot reference get 8/10 even if the theory is brief. Pure paragraphs get 5/10. Format matters more than length here.

One-weekend revision plan

Saturday morning: Units 1-2 (theory + make Drive/Form). Saturday evening: Unit 3 (watch one 20-min video on digital payments + write 5 fraud precautions). Sunday: Unit 4 (make one poster in Canva, export as PDF). Sunday night: solve PYQs for this VAC β€” most colleges reuse the same 15 questions.

Is this based on the latest DU pattern? Yes β€” UGCF/NEP 2022 as taught in 2025-26. Verify paper codes from your college handout.
