UG course structure based on NEP — Semester I to VIII

⚠️ Students please note: This structure follows the same NEP-UGCF as regular DU programmes for most courses, but paper codes and combinations can vary by college. Always verify your exact semester and paper code with your college handout and the official DU notification.

About UG course structure — NEP-UGCF at Delhi University

This page mirrors the UGC NEP course structure for Delhi University from Semester I to VIII as published by the University — AEC (Ability Enhancement), SEC (Skill Enhancement), VAC (Value Addition) and DSC/GE for B.A., B.Com, B.Sc. and Programme courses. Under NEP-UGCF each DSC is typically 4 credits with a 75 marks theory + 25 internal split (or 90+10 in some colleges), spread across four units per semester. The tables inside the PDFs list Paper-V to Paper-VII choices per semester — for example Semester-III shows AEC (choose one: Environmental Science, Assamese, Bengali, Hindi A/B/C, Punjabi, Sanskrit A/B/C, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu), SEC (choose one: Finance for Everyone, Communication in Everyday Life, Rangmanch, etc.) and VAC (choose one: Reading Indian Fiction, Bharatiya Bhakti Parampara, Constitutional Values, Yoga, Panchkosha, etc.).

How to read the folders: SEMESTER-I-II contains foundation structures (20 files) for all courses — open `AEC-SEC-VAC Structure for all Courses.pdf` first, then your honours/programme file (e.g. `B.A. Hons. Economics Course Structure.pdf`). SEMESTER-III onward splits by enrolment session — e.g. `UG_Course_Structure - B.Com and Hons Courses for students enrolled in 2024-25.pdf` vs `2022-23` for VII/VIII. Always match the session year in the filename to your admission batch; a 2024-25 student should not use 2022-23 tables.

How we keep it accurate: These PDFs are the official SOL/Academic Affairs tables — we host them on Sulaksh CDN (cdn.sulaksh.online/file/...?disposition=inline) so they open inside the viewer on the same page (3 clicks) instead of downloading like the original SOL site. The list is updated when Academic Affairs publishes a new session. If your college handout lists a different paper code or combination, follow your college — then tell us via Contact and we update within 24 hours. SOL follows the same NEP-UGCF as regular colleges for most papers, but combinations (which AEC/SEC/VAC you get) vary by college.

What NEP-UGCF actually changed: Before 2022 DU used CBCS (mostly 3-year honours). Since 2022 it uses UGCF under NEP 2020 — a 4-year structure with multiple entry/exits, but for most students the first 6 semesters are identical to the old 3-year degree. Every programme now has Discipline Specific Core (DSC) as major/minor, plus 3 common pools you pick from each semester: AEC (2 credits, language/environment), SEC (2 credits, skill), VAC (2 credits, value) and one GE (4 credits, other department) per semester in early semesters. A BA Programme student, for example, might do DSCs as Major/Minor plus one SEC and one VAC each in Sem I-II, then a GE from Sem III onward. The PDFs here show the exact paper numbers — Paper-V is AEC, Paper-VI is SEC, Paper-VII is VAC for that semester — and the `Choose Any One` rows underneath tell you which options your college actually offers that semester (not every option is offered everywhere).

Example — how a B.A. Programme with History as Major reads Sem I-II: Open `B.A. Programme with History as Major.pdf` (Semester-I-II). You will see Semester-1 DSC-(A/B) lists the major/minor papers for History as Major (e.g. Paper-1 History: Earliest Times, Paper-2 for minor), Semester-2 DSC-(A/B) the next set, and below that the common pool for that year. Many students miss the small note `OR` between AEC options — e.g. `Environmental Science: Theory into Practice - II (Units 5-7) OR Assamese/Bengali/Hindi A/B/C` — that `OR` means you pick exactly one AEC from that list, not all. The same `Choose Any One` header repeats for SEC and VAC columns on the right. If you pick `English: Reading Indian Fiction` as VAC, your next assignment and internal assessment will be from that syllabus only, not the other VACs in the column.

Credits and why VAC/SEC are scoring: Most DSC/GE papers are 4 credits (3 lecture + 1 tutorial) and are marked 75 theory + 25 internal or 90+10. VAC/SEC/AEC are 2 credits (1 lecture + 1 practical or 2 practical) and are often evaluated via continuous assessment, presentations and a 30-50 marks semester-end paper with short notes (5 marks) and applied long answers (10 marks). Because the syllabus is compact (often 3-4 units), toppers use them to boost SGPA — they revise one page per unit with heading + 4-5 bullets + one diagram/table and then solve the previous year's VAC/SEC question that asked from that unit. The `AEC-SEC-VAC Structure for all Courses.pdf` in Semester-I-II is the single best file to start with — it lists every AEC (from `Environmental Science` to `Urdu A/B`), every SEC (from `Finance for Everyone` to `Social Media Marketing` and `Basic IT Tools`) and every VAC for that batch in one place.

Common mistakes students make:

How to use these structures with PYQs and notes: Don't memorize the table. Copy the Paper-V, VI, VII titles for your semester in order onto one sheet, then open the corresponding PYQ for that semester and mark which unit each past question came from. That 10-minute mapping tells you which of the 3 common-pool papers repeats most and where to spend the next two days. Then make one page per unit with heading, 4-5 bullets and one diagram/table — that one-page-per-unit format mirrors DU's marking scheme (`definition + explanation + example + concluding line`) and helps toppers compress 200 pages into 20 revision pages. The PDFs here open in the viewer on this same page, so you can keep the structure table on the right while your notes are open on the left.
