DU Admit Card Problems: Exact Fixes

Wrong photo? Wrong paper code? Centre across the city? My friend's card had someone else's photo — here's every fix.

← All Guides

In this guide, we cover the panic that hits every November — admit-card season.

Two years ago my friend downloaded her Sem 3 admit card from exam.du.ac.in and screamed. The photo on it wasn't hers — some stranger's passport photo stared back, while her name, course, and paper codes were all correct. For one hour she was convinced she'd be stopped at the gate and lose the semester. Then we did three things: matched every paper code against her fee receipt, mailed the college exam office with her ID proof the same evening, and carried a folder with every document to the centre on day one. She wrote all papers without a single interruption — the corrected card arrived before the second exam. The lesson stuck with me: admit-card problems feel fatal and fix fast, if you move the same day.

What matters here: for Dec 2026 odd-semester exams (theory from December 4), cards typically release a couple of weeks before day one — exactly when you're deep in revision and least able to handle admin shocks. Most students download the card once, glance at the centre, and never verify the rest. Then a wrong paper code surfaces on exam morning.

From surviving three admit-card seasons (mine + juniors I help), here is the verification routine, every common problem with its exact fix, and the exam-day carry list. If you haven't downloaded yours yet, do that first with the step-by-step download guide — then come back and verify it here.

How to fix admit card problems before exam day

No admit card, no entry — no exceptions, no "sir main isi college ka hoon". The gate staff follows the sheet, not your face. Three frameworks to keep in mind:

  • Verify the day it releases. Corrections need working days — college exam offices and the exam branch move in days, not hours. A Day-1 download gives you a 10-day correction window; a day-before download gives you panic. Check the DU exam site + your college notice board from mid-November.
  • Paper codes decide your paper. Your UPCs on the fee receipt are the source of truth. If the admit card lists a different code for a subject, the card's exam (date, time, centre room) follows the code — and you must get it corrected before sitting, not after.
  • Carry a correction folder. Until every detail is perfect, every exam day you carry: printed admit card + college ID + government photo ID + fee receipt + correction-request copy. Nobody argues with a folder.

Problem → fix table (check your card against this)

Problem on cardHow seriousExact fix
Wrong / someone else's photoHigh — gate matchingMail college exam office same day with correct photo + ID proof; carry govt ID + fee receipt till corrected card arrives
Name spelling mismatchMedium — must match IDCorrection request to college office with ID proof; carry both IDs + request copy to every exam
Wrong paper code / missing paperCritical — decides your examMatch UPCs against fee receipt first; correction via college + exam branch immediately; don't sit the wrong code hoping it counts
Centre very far / unknown collegeLogisticsVisit the centre 1–2 days early (route + room); centres aren't changed on request — plan travel, not appeals
Card not released / portal errorHighClear dues + confirm exam form status with college office; SOL students check SOL dashboard, not just exam.du.ac.in

For every correction, the channel is the same: college exam office first (they forward to the exam branch), written request + ID proof + fee receipt, same day you spot it. Phone calls don't create records — paper does. And re-check the tentative datesheet page + odd-sem 2026 guide so the corrected paper's date and shift are already on your calendar.

SOL students: your differences (read this part)

SOL admit cards run through the SOL student portal route rather than the regular-college flow — if your card isn't showing on exam.du.ac.in, check the SOL dashboard first before panicking. Assignment submission status affects eligibility, so confirm your assignments show as submitted. Same verification applies once downloaded: photo, name, UPCs against the fee receipt. And SOL centres cluster differently — almost nobody gets their "home" centre, so the advance centre visit matters more for you, not less. (Background on why the syllabus is identical: SOL vs Regular.)

Exam-day carry list + centre protocol

  • Printed admit card (2 copies). One for the desk, one spare in the bag. Phone screenshots die with batteries.
  • College ID + government photo ID. Originals, not photocopies — especially while any correction is pending.
  • Fee receipt + correction-request copy. Your proof of UPCs and of having reported the issue. This folder ends arguments.
  • Reach 45 minutes early on day one, 30 after. Find your room, washroom, and water before the rush. A calm first 10 minutes is worth marks.
Centre secret I learnt late: Visit the centre the evening before day one — note the gate, the room block, and the metro/auto last-mile. Students who "know the route" still lose 20 minutes finding Room 214 in an unfamiliar building. That 20 minutes is a full revision cycle of your one-page sheets (see the 3-pass compression).

The 4 admit-card mistakes that cause exam-morning panic

  • Downloading once and never verifying. The card is a draft until you've matched photo, name, every UPC, dates, and centre. Ten minutes on release day saves ten hours later.
  • Ignoring a wrong paper code. Sitting the wrong-code paper "hoping it counts" is how semesters are lost. Codes decide; correct first, sit after.
  • Only carrying a phone screenshot. Batteries die, screens crack, guards want paper. Two printouts weigh nothing and save everything.
  • First-time centre visit on exam morning. Unknown building + unknown room + Delhi traffic = missed reading time. Visit the evening before.

Once the card is clean, the work shifts back to prep: the 30-day plan for the final stretch, the 3-pass PYQ method for revision, and the download guide for anyone who hasn't pulled their card yet.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: My photo is wrong — will they stop me at the gate?
Not if you act now: report to your college exam office the same day with your correct photo + ID proof, and carry govt ID + fee receipt + request copy till the corrected card arrives. Gate staff admits documented students; they stop undocumented surprises.

Q2: Name spelling doesn't match my Aadhaar — problem?
Fix it the same way (written correction request + ID proof) and carry both IDs meanwhile. Minor spelling variants rarely block entry when documented, but don't leave it — marksheets inherit the spelling.

Q3: A paper code differs from my fee receipt — which do I follow?
Neither blindly: report immediately and sit only the corrected paper. The code determines date, time, and evaluation — writing the wrong-code exam doesn't transfer marks to your subject.

Q4: My centre is 20 km away — can I get it changed?
Effectively no — centres aren't reassigned on request. Plan instead: advance visit, metro/auto route, 45-minute buffer on day one. Logistics beats appeals here.

Q5: SOL student, card not showing — what first?
Check the SOL dashboard/portal first (different release flow), confirm exam-form + assignment status, then contact the SOL helpdesk/college office with your fee receipt. Don't wait — release windows and correction windows overlap.

What to do next

Admit-card day is an admin day, not a study day — give it one full evening: download, verify every line against the fee receipt, report anything same-day, print two copies, and pin the centre route. Then forget admin exists and get back to PYQs. Future-you, walking calmly into the right room on December 4, says thanks.
